Private Tuition

It’s difficult to imagine that a relative or friend could possibly teach you to drive yet many people believe their sibling or best friend can teach them to drive better than a professional instructor can.

This might sound ridiculous but this is what many people are implying by choosing a family or friend to teach them to drive. There are two main reasons why this is pretty much destined for failure from the outset.

A suitable driving location is where you begin your lessons from the outset with a driving instructor. That means somewhere where there is no other traffic so you can get to grips with the controls of a motor vehicle. A family member or friend will simply get you behind the wheel & set you on your way without a seconds thought that you are not accustomed to other traffic.

Suddenly before you know where you are, you’re arguing amongst yourselves as your family or friend isn’t providing you with the assistance you need. Which leads us to the second reason. The family member or friend may have driven for a while & when that is the case you can rest assured that you automatically take things for granted.

You assume that because you do things second nature when you get in a motor vehicle, everyone else does too. Obviously that isn’t the case with a new learner driver & before we know where we are at there is another argument broken out.  It’s not worth the fall out nor is it worth the wasted time when you think you are ready for your test only to find you were not even close.

Use a driving instructor then supplement your lessons with practice with family & friends. That way you can have the best of both worlds. The practice can improve you on areas that you need to get better on. The more time you practice those outside of your lesson time, the more chance you have of your lesson time being used to learn new things.

Driving instructors have had the training to teach you to drive & they know what constitutes a driving lesson. Driving around for an hour or two with no purpose is not a good driving lesson. That is at best what you can expect from friends & family teaching you. A structured lesson is what is needed from the start & only a professional who knows what they are doing can provide that.

Practice makes perfect as the saying goes, so there is always room for friends & family to help you but you should not rely solely on them to get you ready for your driving test. Statistics show that the success rate are extremely low.
